Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively donate $1 MILLION to food banks

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are feeling very generous again as they just made another large donation for those in need.

On Monday it was shared that the power couple donated $1 million to the food banks Feeding America and Food Banks Canada amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This comes three months after they gave away $500,000 to the same organizations. ‘We are honored and privileged to be able to continue our support of Feeding America and Food Banks Canada,’ said a statement from Ryan and Blake.

‘We know the struggles of so many of our neighbors faced last year are not over and we are grateful for the opportunity to help facilitate the important work of food banks across the US and Canada to be able to provide nourishing meals to the people in need,’ the duo added.

Blake and Ryan – who wed in 2012 and have three children, Inez, Betty and James – each donated $500,000 this month to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada, it was shared on social media.

‘When #COVID19 first hit in early 2020, @VanCityReynolds and @BlakeLively generously donated $500K (USD) to US sister organization @FeedingAmerica and to Food Banks Canada helping kickstart our COVID-19 Response Funds,’ it was written by the organization on social media.

‘It was an act that inspired so many Canadians to donate to their local food banks and show their support to their neighbours during these critical times.

Then Ryan’s feud with pal Hugh Jackman was brought up.

‘You continue to be not only our favourite Canadian, but also our favourite superhero (sorry, Hugh Jackman),’ it was added.

In November Reynolds, 44, and Lively, 33, donated $250,000 to Covenant House Vancouver, in Reynolds’ hometown, and another $250,000 to Covenant House Toronto.

Their donation, ‘an incredible act of kindness and philanthropy,’ will go to support, ‘homeless, at-risk, and trafficked youth across the nation,’ according to the Covenant House Vancouver blog.

Reynolds and Lively’s donation is a ‘special matching gift,’ which he hopes to encourage others to donate.

‘Ryan and Blake truly understand that young people who are facing homelessness deserve unconditional love and absolute respect,’ said Krista Thompson, CEO of Covenant House Vancouver.

‘Their generous donation and compassionate support mean so much to Covenant House and we are truly grateful for their continued friendship,’ Thmpson added.

‘Just like Ryan and Blake, we hope this gift highlights the value of each and every youth; and inspires others to open their hearts to those struggling with the crisis of homelessness,’ she concluded.

Reynolds himself added, ‘Covenant House provides love, hope and stability for at-risk youth who’ve fled physical, emotional and sexual abuse.’

‘They do the work of heroes. For us, helping Covenant House this way isn’t a donation, but an investment in compassion and empathy; something the world needs more of,’ he added.

‘The young people who pass through the doors of Covenant House more often than not have a story marked by extraordinary trauma. They are so much more than that trauma,’ he continued.

‘They have so much to offer the world. Matching this gift is saying you believe in them. You believe in the power of compassion to transform the trajectory of a human being,’ Reynolds concluded.

For those who wish to donate and help this worthy cause themselves, Reynolds and Lively will be matching those donations as well.
