Brendan Rodgers’ side are not the only Leicester team to have got one over Liverpool this season, with the women’s team beating them twice in the women’s Championship.

The Foxes top the table in their first year as a professional set-up and are 10 points clear of the managerless Reds.

Emile Heskey, who starred for both clubs, became an ambassador for Jonathan Morgan’s Leicester side at the start of the season and has now taken on a coaching role.

‘I’m trying to give back what I learned in the professional game,’ Heskey told Sportsmail. ‘The manager’s been fantastic helping me as well, because I’ve got all this knowledge from playing but it’s not always easy to get that out in the right way as a coach.’

The women train at Belvoir Drive, the facility vacated by the men’s team just before Christmas.

For many of their players, it’s a far cry from what they are used to. Top scorer Natasha Flint was working part-time as a lab technician before joining in the summer.

‘It’s a Premier League facility and we’ve got the whole thing to ourselves,’ Heskey added. ‘I was here from age nine, playing and training. It’s changed a hell of a lot since then but it’s great the girls can see what they’ve got and that the club is investing in them.’

Liverpool were favourites to take the only promotion spot at the start of the season, but it’s Leicester who lead the way. Level on points with Durham, they have a game in hand and Heskey said they are dreaming of competing with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City next season.

He said: ‘You’ve got to have ambitions. When you only have one up, one down it’s always going to be really competitive.’
