A New Zine Explores Hong Kong Comfort Food

The Infatuation — the online platform for restaurant reviews and more, which owns Zagat — has introduced a new print zine, IYKYK & If Not, Now You Do, sold online. The first edition, Volume I, for Spring 2021, explores cha chaan teng, best described as 1950s-style Western coffee shop diner fare interpreted in Hong Kong with components like Spam, canned cream of chicken soup and American processed cheese, along with Chinese noodles and roast pork. The zine is largely the work of Emily Ng, the art director for the Infatuation, and includes contributions from chefs like Lucas Sin of Junzi Kitchen and Calvin Eng of Win Son, along with recipes. Your breakfast may never be the same. And must we explain the name: “If You Know You Know”? A portion of the price will benefit Welcome to Chinatown, an organization that supports Chinese businesses in New York.

IYKYK & If Not, Now You Do, $29.95, iykyk.theinfatuation.com.
