Lori Loughlin requests the return of her passport after successfully serving prison sentence

Lori Loughlin is asking a judge to order the return of her passport, following the completion of her two month prison sentence in late December.

In recently filed documents, the 56-year-old actress’ legal team stated that the passport is currently in the possession of the United States Pretrial Services Office, as per TMZ.

Loughlin was forced to surrender her passport in 2019 as she faced charges for her part in the now infamous college admissions scandal, alongside husband Mossimo Giannulli and several others.

The documents, obtained by the outlet on Thursday, say that there are no governmental objections for completing Loughlin and her legal team’s request, so it is only a matter of time until her passport is returned to her.

Loughlin was released from federal lockup at CI Dublin in California on December 28, where she served the entirety of her two month prison sentence, as stated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The Full House star reportedly had a ‘tearful’ reunion with her daughters Olivia Jade, 21, and Bella Rose, 22, when she finally returned to their Malibu mansion.

‘Lori is beyond relieved that she can put her prison sentence behind her’, a source told People at the time. 

The insider said that the college admissions scandal is ‘the most stressful thing [Lori] has ever dealt with’ and that ‘she is still worried about Mossimo though, and can’t wait to have him home.’ 

Her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, is still serving his five-month sentence at a prison in Lompoc near Santa Barbara, California for his role in the college admissions bribery scheme. 

He is scheduled to be released on April 17. Prosecutors said Giannulli deserved a tougher sentence because he was ‘the more active participant in the scheme.’

The couple were among the highest-profile defendants charged in the scheme, which revealed the lengths some wealthy parents would go to to secure their child’s spot at an elite university.

Authorities said that the parents involved funneled bribes through a fake charity run by an admissions consultant to get their kids into top schools with fake athletic credentials and/or rigged test scores. 

Specifically, Loughlin and Giannulli admitted in May to paying $500,000 to get their two daughters, Olivia and Isabella, into the University of Southern California as crew recruits even though neither girl was a rower 

Their guilty plea was a stunning reversal for the couple, whose lawyers had insisted for a year they were innocent – even and accusing investigators of fabricating evidence against them.

The only public comments either Loughlin or Giannulli made about the case since their arrest last year came at their sentencing hearings in August.

Loughlin told the judge her actions ‘helped exacerbate existing inequalities in society’ and pledged to do everything in her power to use her experience as a ‘catalyst to do good.’ 

Loughlin and Giannulli were both initially supposed to report to prison on Nov. 19, but prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed Loughlin could start her sentence on Oct. 30. Loughlin also agreed that she would not seek early release on coronavirus-related grounds, prosecutors said.

Of the nearly 60 parents, coaches and others charged in the case, about a dozen are still fighting the allegations. The sentences for the parents who have pleaded so far in the case range from a couple weeks to nine months. Actor Felicity Huffman served nearly two weeks in prison last year for paying an admissions consultant $15,000 to have a proctor correct her daughter’s SAT answers.

Lori and Mossimo’s youngest daughter, social media influencer Olivia Jade, made her first public remarks about the scandal during a controversial appearance on the series Red Table Talk in December.

‘We messed up. I just want a second chance to be like, “I recognize I messed up.” And for so long I wasn’t able to talk about this because of the legalities behind it,’ she explained to host Jada Pinkett Smith.

She has since attempted to revive her social media career after going on a year-long hiatus in wake of the charges brought against her parents and their subsequent prison sentences. 

With her prison sentence behind her, Lori is reportedly interested in working again as an actress now that her Varsity Blues college admissions scandal is behind her after serving out a two month prison sentence. 

People recently claimed that the actress – who is best known for playing Becky on TV’s Full House and the subsequent revival Fuller House – hopes someone will hire her in the future.

‘She always loved her career. She loves filming and creating movies,’ said the insider who noted a new TV show may be in her future.

The source also said: ‘She previously expressed that she would love to act again at some point.’

But it is not as if she will be calling up casting directors anytime soon to check in.

‘The only focus right now though is to reunite with Mossimo,’ added the friend. ‘It seems Lori will put everything on hold until Mossimo is home. She isn’t really thinking about anything else.’

Her freedom is still very new to her, with the source not that ‘Lori is still in the moment of enjoying being back at home.’

‘The next big focus is of course to have Mossimo back home. No one can visit him in prison, because of COVID. He stays in touch with his family via phone calls.’

UsWeekly reported in December that Mossimo was having a ‘tough time’ in prison. 

Before the scandal, Lori had a thriving career. She played Rebecca Katsopolis on Fuller House from 2016 until 2018, and also starred as Abigail Stanton on When Calls the Heart from 2014 until 2019.

From 2013 to 2019 the LA resident portrayed Jennifer Shannon on Garage Sale Mysteries.

Her career began in 1971 with a small part in the TV series The Smith Family. She went on to work on The Edge Of Night, Full House, Hudson Street, Summerland and 90210.
