Liverpool and Chelsea suffer major transfer blow as Bayern Munich confirm agreement with Upamecano

Liverpool and Chelsea suffer major transfer blow as Bayern Munich confirm they have WON the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano in £38.5m deal

Bayern Munich have confirmed that they have reached a £38.5million agreement to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.

The Bundesliga champions’ chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed earlier this month that they were battling Liverpool and Chelsea to sign the French defender.

But the German side have dealt a severe blow to the Premier League duo by confirming the signing of the 22-year-old France international – who has agreed a five-year deal at the Allianz Arena – ahead of next season.

‘I can confirm and we are very happy about that at FC Bayern,’ Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told BILD.

‘We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his agent Volker Struth for several months.

‘We knew we had very tough competition. Upamecano is a young player, 22, whose qualities are already exceptionally developed.

‘I was always convinced that we had with a good concept. We presented him with our vision of his career at FC Bayern.

‘During the past week I spoke to everyone involved again. At the end of a long process, the player, his family and his management were convinced that FC Bayern was the right partner for them.’
