Jasmine Harman: A Place In The Sun host blew savings trying to land TV role 'Spent it all'

Jasmine Harman, 44, has revealed how she quit her steady job in Portugal after “a few margaritas” and the encouragement from her friend, in a bid to become a successful travel presenter. The A Place In The Sun host admitted to spending “all” of her savings on creating a showreel alongside a “professional production” company, in an aim to get noticed by TV bosses.

Opening up on how she landed her role on A Place In The Sun, Jasmine said: “I feel like I needed a new challenge and after a few margaritas with some friends one night, one of them suggested I go and be a TV presenter.

“I thought, ‘Yes, great idea!’ So the next morning with a bit of a hangover I went into work and gave in my notice.

“I then spent all of my savings on employing a little production company in Faro to help me make a showreel,” she added to Wigwam Swindon.

At this point, Jasmine had no experience in TV but had plenty of ideas for shows she would like to work on, particularly related to travel.

Shortly after completing her showreel Jasmine landed the role on A Place In The Sun, after wowing producers in the audition process.

The star’s glamorous life onscreen is a far cry from her childhood growing up in East London.

Jasmine grew up quickly and became “streetwise” while living in Clapton as a child, in an area nicknamed “Murder Mile” at the time.

The 45-year-old admitted at times she felt ashamed while living in the “rough” location as a young girl, before it became gentrified.

“It’s very much gentrified now, but it was a bit rough back then which made me quite streetwise.

“It was a housing co-op property and the first time we’d had a bedroom each, so we were able to choose the paint colour for our bedrooms,” she added.

However, as Jasmine grew older, she began to become more aware of her surroundings and started to feel embarrassed of her family home, due to mum’s issue with hoarding and did not like to invite friends over.

These days Jasmine often posts snaps on Instagram of her incredible lifestyle across the globe while filming for A Place In The Sun.

In a recent snap, Jasmine cuddled up to a teacup chihuahua while on set in Spain.

She typed: “Tiny cuddles behind the scenes of today’s luxury property!

“We get to see both ends of the property market this episode, with Paul and Lisa’s £72k budget and @ohsomrmurray shows us a top-end villa!

“3pm today! @aplaceinthesunofficial @channel4 @ohsogabbana #luxuryhomes #dogsofinstagram.”

A Place In The Sun airs today at 3pm on Channel 4.
