A BBC docu-series, Trump Takes On The World, claims the former President was informed by staff he missed a call from the Russian President during a meeting with then-Prime Minister Theresa May. After learning he missed the call, Mr Trump is said to have lost his temper and raged at his aides.
Fiona McLeod Hill, then-Downing Street chief of staff, told the BBC the former President turned “red” during the January 2017 meeting.
Mrs May’s aide added how Mr Trump “flipped” and was “furious” Mr Putin was not put through.
“He said, ‘you’re telling me Vladimir Putin called the White House and you’re only telling me now during this lunch?’
“You could feel the tumbleweed just completely take over the entire lunch table and my toes were curling.”

Kim Darroch, then-UK ambassador to the US, previously said Mrs May “wanted to talk to him about Putin” at the White House.
The ambassador added: “She’d heard him say some quite positive things about his potential relationship with Putin during the campaign.”
“She wanted to tell him what she thought he was like.”
After Mr Trump missed the phone call, he said to the then-Prime Minister: “Vladimir Putin is the only man in the world who can destroy the United States, and I didn’t take his call.”
Other revelations from the BBC docu-series include Mrs May being surprised” by Mr Trump holding her hand as they walked through the White House.
Ms McLeod Hill said: “He held her hand going through the colonnades, which took us all by surprise, and as it turns out, took Theresa by surprise.
“She couldn’t really take her hand back, so she was stuck… And the first thing she said was ‘I need to call Philip just to let him know I’ve been holding hands with another man before it hits the media’.”
US undersecretary for political affairs, Thomas Shannon, also added Mrs May was treated to the “full bloom” from Mr Trump, which was described as the former President running “the gamut from his own inauguration to his disdain for the press”.
It comes after US President Joe Biden signalled his administration will take a tougher stance on Russia than Mr Trump.
In his first phone call with Mr Putin, Mr Biden made clear he would “not hesitate” defending the US from Russia.
Mr Biden said: “I made it clear to President Putin, in a manner very different from my predecessor, that the days of the United States rolling over in the face of Russia’s aggressive actions, interfering with our elections, cyberattacks, poisoning its citizens, are over.
“We will not hesitate to raise the cost on Russia and defend our vital interests and our people.
“And we will be more effective in dealing with Russia when we work in coalition and coordination with other like-minded partners.”
It also comes after a former KGB agent claimed Mr Trump was groomed by the Russian spy agency for more than 40 years.
Yuri Shvets, who worked for the KGB in Washington DC for years in the 1980s, told journalist Craig Unger in the book American Kompromat the former President “was an asset”.
Mr Shvets added to the Guardian: “Trump was the perfect target in a lot of ways: His vanity, narcissism made him a natural target to recruit.
“He was cultivated over a 40-year period, right up through his election.”
