‘London is Blue!’: Chelsea stars including Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James insist they own the capital and TAUNT Tottenham after handing rivals their first derby defeat of the season

  • Chelsea have claimed supremacy over their London rivals after winning at Spurs
  • The club tweeted that ‘London is blue’ and several players gleefully followed suit
  • Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Antonio Rudiger and Mason Mount joined in
  • Tottenham had been the only team to stay unbeaten in London derbies this term

Chelsea players have joined the club in declaring London ‘blue’ after giving Tottenham a night of capital punishment to claim city bragging rights.

Spurs were the only side not to have lost to a London side before their 1-0 home defeat gave them the blues, and some of the players involved were quick to crow about Chelsea’s Premier League win.

Defenders Antonio Rudiger and Reece James and midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi tweeted that ‘London is blue’ in the aftermath of their dominant display at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Midfielder Mason Mount, who joined the club as a six-year-old, wrote: ‘A London derby win is special’.

The official club account also announced that the city was ‘so, so blue’ after Jorginho’s first-half penalty allowed them to leapfrog Spurs and rise to sixth in the table.

The only defeat on Chelsea’s Premier League record this season against teams from London was a 3-1 loss at Arsenal on Boxing Day that hastened the departure of club legend Frank Lampard.

Their win against Spurs was revenge for a defeat on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Carabao Cup in September, and they were held to a goalless draw by Jose Mourinho’s side on November 29.

Chelsea have also beaten Crystal Palace 4-0, West Ham 3-0 and Fulham 1-0 in a largely successful campaign against local adversaries so far.

They are unbeaten in five matches against Spurs, winning four of them since a 3-1 defeat at White Hart Lane in November 2018.

Thomas Tuchel’s team will next face a London side in the league when they visit Palace on April 10, launching a run of four games out of six against near neighbours.

The chance to avenge that defeat to Arsenal will arrive when they face Mikel Arteta’s men on May 12.
