Donald Trump ‘resorted to suggesting put-downs’ to allies following Twitter ban

The former US president was banned from the social media website following the storming of Congress in Washington DC. The civil unrest also triggered his second impeachment trial, which is due to begin on February 9.

But according to a report by the Daily Beast, the Republican has asked friends to divulge his ideas from their Twitter accounts.

Rep Liz Cheney became one of his purported targets after she spoke out in favour of – and later voted for – his impeachment.

The news outlet reported: “Due to Twitter’s banning of the @realDonaldTrump account following the Capitol riot that Trump instigated, he has not been able to personally trash Cheney via his once widely read tweets.

”He has written out insults and observations, several of them about Cheney, but with no ability to tweet them himself, he has resorted to suggesting put-downs for others to use or post to their own Twitter, according to a person with direct knowledge of this new habit.”

The former president recently hit out at Ms Cheney for supporting his foreign policy but condemning him over his remarks relating to the January 6 riots.

Ms Cheney released a statement following the insurrection announcing her support for the impeachment vote.

The statement read: “Much more will become clear in coming days and weeks, but what we know now is enough.

“The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack.
