Kits to Make Sushi and Sashimi at Home

MakiMaki’s Midtown location has added a HomeChef line, for making sushi rolls and other Japanese specialties at home. The sushi roll kit comes with rice, seasoning for the rice and a rolling mat; sheets of nori; ginger, wasabi, shiso, gobo, slivered avocado, cucumber and other vegetables; and a copious quantity of high-quality frozen fish, including hamachi, yellowfin tuna and salmon. There’s more than enough to make rolls to serve four people. Instructions are included. The kit, $110 or $150, depending on the kinds of fish, comes with detailed instructions. Sashimi kits are another option, and there is a shabu-shabu kit with Wagyu beef. The fish is also sold à la carte, $9 to $45 for mostly 6-ounce portions. The kits can be delivered from West Fourth to East 88th Streets in Manhattan and are available for pickup on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
