Three-year-old girl and her brother, two, die after drowning in Florida pond

  • Seminole County officials announced the deaths of three-year-old Davielle Sparks and her two-year-old brother David on Monday 
  • The toddlers had been reported missing from their home in Longwood on Sunday evening
  • Officers arrived to find their mother distraught and screaming: ‘My babies!’ 
  • The mom told officers both kids had autism and liked to visit a pond nearby
  • The children were discovered floating in the pond an hour later 
  • Police said no foul play is suspected and an investigation is ongoing  

Two toddlers have died after being pulled from a retention pond in Florida. 

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office announced the deaths of three-year-old Davielle Sparks and her two-year-old brother David on Monday. 

The children had been reported missing from their home at the Highcroft Point Townhomes in Longwood at about 7.30pm Sunday, officials said. 

Officers arrived to find the children’s mother distraught and screaming: ‘My babies!’ The mother told the officers that both of the kids had autism and liked to spend time at the pond near their home.

Soon after officers discovered both children floating in the water of the retention pond used to control storm runoff. 

They were rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead at about 8.30pm. 

Police said there were no signs of foul play but an investigation remains ongoing. 

It’s unclear how the children ended up at the pond. 

‘Our hearts go out to the family,’ the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
