Liverpool handed transfer deadline day boost by Nat Phillips’ ‘capable’ defending

Phillips has been shaky at times when called upon by Klopp, particularly against Newcastle United.

But the 23-year-old impressed against West Ham, with Jamie Redknapp hailing the youngster in his half-time analysis on Sky Sports.

Highlighting a West Ham free kick in the first period, Redknapp said: “He [Phillips] is the only one who follows the line and it’s a really good header.

“He’s done ever so well. He’s matched him [Antonio] and had a really good 45 minutes.”

Phillips also showed his aerial ability against the strong Antonio and proved he can be a reliable choice at the back should Liverpool fail to bring in defensive reinforcements.
