Outlander season 6: Sam Heughan opens up on ‘disagreements’ with co-star

Outlander season six is set to begin production very soon with the cast confirming they have started reading scripts for the new series. While fans endure a long Droughtlander, they can tune into Men in Kilts starring Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish, who played Dougal MacKenzie in the Starz series.

In the new series, the actors travel across Scotland and reflecting on their time on Outlander.

As a companion to the show, the pair wrote Clanlands, in which they share details from their road trip together and Sam gets candid about his relationship with co-star Caitriona Balfe.

He wrote: “Caitriona and I have been on this terrific journey together for almost seven years now.

“Both rather green at first and thrown together to play soul-mates Jamie and Claire, in Caitriona I have not only had a brilliant and sensitive co-star but a loyal friend.

“Cait and I are like brother and sister, we know how each other works.”

Sam went on to add it’s not always easy though: “There’s an ease and comfort when working together and of course we have our disagreements but ultimately always we have each other’s backs.

“I insisted during Season One negotiations that our fees/contracts were the same and that we were always in it together.”

Sam and Caitrion became producers of the series in season five and have had a big say in how their characters, Jamie and Claire, have grown.

“I’m so lucky to share this journey with her. And I guess the ‘chemistry’ takes care of itself.”

While the cast and crew have kept tight-lipped about the new series, Sam has confirmed Tom Christie and his daughter Malva will make an appearance.

Speaking in a behind-the-scenes clip, he explained: “Obviously we have to dress lots of people because there are many, many more settlers coming to Fraser’s Ridge.

“We have a new character, but he’s not so new to Jamie.

“Actually in Ardsmuir, Tom Christie is one of Jamie’s ancient foes. He comes to Fraser’s Ridge and tries to take a bit of power actually.

“So there’s a bit of power play and his daughter becomes a very, very special part of this story. I can’t give away more.”

Fans of the Outlander novels by Diana Gabaldon know Malva causes quite a stir on the Ridge.

She falls pregnant and tries to poison Claire after claiming Jamie is the father of her child and wants him to take care of her.

Whether to not the storyline is included in the next season remains to be seen but fans are keen to see some peace for Claire and Jamie.

Outlander seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and Starz now.
