Eric Garcia 'ready not to be paid a salary until the end of the season' to join Barcelona

Eric Garcia desperate to push through £2.7m transfer to cash-strapped Barcelona with Manchester City defender ‘ready not to be paid a salary until the end of the season’, reveals presidential candidate Victor Font

  • Manchester City defender Eric Garcia will leave the club at the end of the season
  • Barcelona have made a £2.7m bid to re-sign the player – who is keen to join
  • The 20-year-old has reportedly also attracted interest from Arsenal and PSG

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia has told Barcelona he is willing to play for nothing if his transfer can be agreed this window.

Barcelona have bid £2.7million for his services but, with huge debts, there is opposition within the club to completing a deal now as he will join for free in the summer.

Presidential candidate Victor Font said: ‘We’re asking the acting board to sign Garcia. City would accept €3m plus add-ons and we wouldn’t have to pay until next season. The player’s also ready to not be paid a salary until the end of the season.’

The 20-year-old has many suitors, including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain according to reports, but his preferred destination is a return to Barcelona.

Barca have been the heavy favourites with boss Ronald Koeman keen to bring in a central defender before the transfer window closes on Monday, but with the club’s presidential elections having been delayed, that is now in doubt.

The Spanish giants announced a couple of weeks ago that their elections – originally scheduled for last weekend – would not go ahead because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and signing players is not within the remit of caretaker president Carles Tusquets.

Garcia has featured just eight times for City this season – with his last appearance coming in their 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Cheltenham on January 23.
