Phil Spector, famed music producer and convicted murderer, dead at 81

Phil Spector, the former music producer who was convicted of the 2003 murder of actor Lana Clarkson, died on Saturday. He was 81.

Spector, full name Harvey Phillip Spector, died of natural causes at 6:35 p.m. at an unspecified hospital, according to a release from the California Department of Corrections. A medical examiner will determine the official cause of death, according to the release.

Prior to being convicted, Spector was arguably best known for a music production technique called the “wall of sound.”
