Jose Mourinho insists there has been 'no discussion' about Gareth Bale staying at Tottenham

Jose Mourinho insists there has been ‘no discussion’ about Gareth Bale staying at Tottenham beyond this summer… after reports Spurs are ‘unlikely to extend the Real Madrid winger’s loan for another season’

  • Jose Mourinho has spoken about the long-term future of Gareth Bale at Spurs
  • Mourinho’s team dropped two points at home to Fulham on Wednesday evening
  • Bale was an unused substitute and has struggled for minutes in recent months
  • Spurs travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon

Jose Mourinho revealed there has been ‘no discussion’ about extending Gareth Bale’s loan at Tottenham beyond the summer despite reports stating Spurs are unlikely to extend the Welshman’s loan deal.

Spurs slipped up against Fulham on Wednesday in a 1-1 draw – when Bale was an unused substitute – and are looking to get back to winning ways at bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

Yet despite re-joining the club on loan from Real Madrid last summer, Bale has not been a regular for Spurs this season and has played just 161 minutes of Premier League football – but Mourinho insisted the 31-year-old’s future has not been discussed.

Ahead of the weekend clash, Mourinho responded to reports on Bale by saying: ‘Was not a second of discussion about that [since he arrived].

‘Gareth is a player on loan until the end of the season. Not one second of discussion. We are talking about Gareth himself, Real Madrid, Tottenham.

‘Of course you know he arrived injured for the first month and the Europa League group phase is a different intensity so in the Premier League (he) didn’t play a lot of minutes.

‘Then an injury against Stoke where he was having a good first half. Not an easy process.’

Mourinho also stated that he is unsure about Danny Rose’s future at the club, while he confirmed that Giovani Lo Celso would not be available for the trip to Bramall Lane due to injury.

Tottenham will be looking to find some consistency again having won just once in their last six league games.

‘Well I think we probably lost two matches in the last 18 and I think we are having some results,’ Mourinho added.

‘Let’s say some draws that could and should be victories because they were matches that we had in our hands, to kill them or to keep them in the pocket. I believe that the response has always been positive, so that’s it.’
