Man Utd issue statement confirming Amad Diallo transfer as new minor hold up detailed

Manchester United have confirmed that Amad Diallo has joined the club from Atalanta as he becomes their first signing of the January transfer window. A deal, which could rise to £37million, was agreed on deadline day in October for the Ivorian wonderkid, subject to a medical, work permit and personal terms.

The Red Devils have now confirmed the deal is done as Diallo sets his sights on meeting his new team-mates.

United have confirmed that Diallo won’t be able to fly to Manchester just yet though.

That’s because he is currently waiting for a visa but all the relevant paperwork has now been submitted ahead of his new chapter.

A club statement read: “Manchester United is pleased to confirm Amad Diallo’s arrival from Atalanta has been finalised. The Ivorian winger has signed a contract to the end of June 2025, with the option of an extra year.

The teenager’s shirt number is expected to be revealed in due course and it’s understood he will wear either the No 19 shirt or No 79.

Diallo has now shared his delight at signing for United and paid tribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s influence on his decision.

“After waiting since the summer, it is finally a dream come true to complete my move to Manchester United,” he said.

“I am hugely ambitious and there is so much that I want to achieve in the game; when I spoke to the manager I knew that I had joined the perfect club.

“This is a really exciting squad with so many great players, I can promise that I will work hard every day to learn from them and give everything to develop my game.

“The coaches have been fantastic since I signed, we have been in touch regularly and they have already given me a lot of great advice.”

Like Facundo Pellistri, Diallo is expected to join up with the club’s under-23 side.

Diallo’s hopes of senior opportunities have been boosted by the decision to extend the size of benches in the Premier League from seven players to nine.
