Yellowstone plot hole: Fans fume at missing season two storylines – 'So stupid’

The fourth season of Yellowstone is expected to launch on Paramount and NBC’s new streaming platform Peacock this summer. Despite shooting up in the ratings last year, some fans have spotted a number of missing details in Taylor Sheridan’s epic family saga.

Yellowstone’s eventful second season has come under fire for its unresolved storylines from some of the show’s more critical viewers.

Paramount’s modern Western series returned for a follow-up instalment in 2018 after showrunner Taylor Sheridan delivered a surprise hit for the new network the previous year.

In season two, ranch owner John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) faced off against Teal (Terry Serpico) and Malcolm Beck (Neal McDonough).

Their scheme to erect a new casino on the Yellowstone Ranch drove the greedy businessmen to desperate lengths, even going so far as to kidnap John’s grandson, Tate (Brecken Merrill).

Meanwhile, his consistent rivals Dan Jenkins (Danny Huston) and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) were still hounding John to relent control over his land.

The second season originally aired on Paramount back in 2019, though it attracted the attention of UK audiences when it was finally released on My5 late last year.

Although most fans felt the new instalment delivered on the promise of Yellowstone’s first nine episodes, others were disappointed and felt the series tried to juggle too many storylines.

One such fan recently took to Reddit to air out their criticisms for season two, including the sudden departure of some major players.

Still, if screenwriter and director Taylor Sheridan fails to deliver on the promise of 2020’s catastrophic finale, he may find more and more Yellowstone viewers will start to switch off.

Down in the comments, more fans speculated whether the series actually has an ending in mind, or if the storylines are simply thought up season to season.

One fan replied: “Some of this I chalk up to Paramount being a relatively new network and Yellowstone being a surprise hit for them.

“Not sure Sheridan and the network were planning seasons-long, detailed storylines from the beginning.”

More forgotten details include Tate’s dinosaur bone discovery and Kayce’s (Luke Grimes) plan to blow up the Beck brothers’ plane, which never came to fruition.

Filming is currently underway in Montana for season four, so it’s hoped Sheridan and the production team have enough time to work on delivering a satisfying fourth season of Yellowstone.

Unfortunately, many of season two’s plot threads could still be stuck in limbo as the next instalment will deal with the aftermath of the Duttons’ attack at the end of season three.

Yellowstone will return in 2021 on Paramount and Peacock.
