Piers Morgan swipes at ‘cretinous’ Kirstie Allsopp as her COVID advice sparks fiery debate

Piers Morgan, 55, tweeted that the person he would “least” like to hear COVID-19 advice from is Kirsty Allsopp. His outraged post came after the property presenter shared that it is more likely a child is at danger from “trampolining” than they are from the deadly effects of coronavirus.

Piers typed: “Of all the people I least want to hear from when it comes to expert advice on coronavirus, TV estate agent Kirstie Allsopp and her cretinous trampoline analogies are top of the list.”

The statement from the Good Morning Britain star came as Kirstie sparked a heated debate on her social media about the dangers coronavirus poses to children.

Kirstie said: “Covid is a horrible disease but it is very, very, very rare for it to impact children.

“They are still at far more danger from journeys in cars, or swimming, or trampolining than Covid. Please do not let anyone persuade you otherwise.”

The tweet came just hours after an eight-year-old child died of coronavirus yesterday as death numbers rose in the biggest Saturday increase since May.

Her sentiment prompted a mass response from parents as many questioned why as a TV estate agent she was “qualified” comment on the pandemic.

Ongoing debates continue around where children should be returning to classrooms, as some schools in the South-East will remain shut this week.

Kirstie explained: “I’m not talking about the schools, I’m talking about reassuring children and their parents. This new variant is in no way more dangerous for children and those saying otherwise are wicked.”

She continued: “I am staggered by those who, far from wanting to reassure children & parents that children are not more at risk from the new variant, are just replying about how catching kids are. God help this generation of kids who are so loathed and feared.”

Twitter users weighed in on the debate as they expressed their opinion on the matter.

One said: “You can’t transmit accidents, you can Covid. So it not only affects the child, and this new variant does, it affects school staff, parents, extended family and other children. It can cause illness, death and long Covid.. please stop saying these foolish things.”

A second replied: “Find me someone who has caught a trampoline injury from a child and then passed it on to someone clinically vulnerable to trampoline accidents.”

A third wrote: “Missing the point as usual. Children currently have the highest rates and so are SPREADING the virus to ppl who are then badly affected. The scientists have said that we can’t keep R below 1 if schools remain open.”

However, some agreed with Kirstie, as they believed schools should remain open, one replied: “I’m absolutely sick of people assuming that every child is infectious!!! It’s wrong and unhealthy treating them like they have the plague!!”

It comes as Piers and Kirstie fell out on Twitter earlier last year during a tense row, after The Location, Location, Location star had originally been complaining about the criticism she received for leaving London for Devon during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic.

She tweeted: “The last 24 hours has been utterly horrible, full of vile, unpleasant and frankly frightening comments.”(sic)

Piers retweeted her post and advised: “Stop making this crisis about your struggle with trolls.

He continued: “Kirstie, you’re rich, privileged & isolating in a lavish country home with your family. Maybe stop making this crisis about your struggle with trolls & direct your energy into rallying support for NHS workers risking their lives for us all in very dangerous circumstances?”

Kirstie responded to Piers remarks by labelling him a “total b*****d” for sharing the post with his many followers.

She wrote: “You total b*****d there was NO need to Retweet that to your millions of followers, it was totally unnecessary and unkind thing to do.”
