June Spencer joined the cast for the very first episode, and she continues to play the renowned Peggy Woolley at 101 years old.
The Yorkshire Post said she had no plans to quit her role any time soon, saying: “I just love it, I think it’s what keeps me going.”
The veteran actress played the character for three years, between 1950 and 1953, before taking some time out to look after her family.
Her role was taken over by Thelma Rogers, but Spencer rejoined the cast in 1962 and she has continued to play the role ever since.
Having starred in the series for more than 60 years, her achievement makes her the third-longest serving actor in a soap in the world.
