New Year’s Eve will be very different this year. While revellers normally enjoy gathering in pubs, restaurants and clubs with friends to celebrate the end of another year, the Tier restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic means this won’t happen this year. The Government has urged Brits to be sensible and follow the safety guidance on New Year’s Eve in a bid to slow the spread of the new coronavirus strain ravaging the country.
Three-quarters of England will be under Tier 4 lockdown restrictions from December 30, following Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s announcement on Wednesday.
Speaking from Downing Street on Wednesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “I must ask you to follow the rules where you live tomorrow night and see in the new year safely at home.
“That means not meeting up with friends and family indoors unless they’re in the same household and support bubble.”
He added: “And avoiding large gatherings of any kind.”

One of the best things to come out of lockdown is seeing everyone find alternative ways to gather with friends and family.
Organise a Zoom call with your closest friends or family members and count down to the New Year together.
