McDonald's opening hours: Is McDonald's open on New Year's Day?

McDonald’s is one of the nation’s favourite fast-food restaurants and can be the perfect meal after celebrating the night away on New Year’s Eve. From chicken nuggets to burgers, vegetarian options to sweet treats there is something for everyone. But what are opening hours for McDonald’s on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day?

McDonald’s has 1,300 branches in the UK and despite the closure of restaurants under Tier 3 and Tier 4 rules, is still offering takeaway and delivery services.

However, the chain announced plans to close earlier and open later on certain days over the Christmas period to thank workers.

McDonald’s UK CEO Paul Pomroy emailed customers in December, saying: “I know many of you will be looking forward to visiting one of our restaurants over the festive season to enjoy your McDonald’s favourites.

“Given the extraordinary year we’ve all had, we will balance being there for you when you need us with giving our people some additional time off with their loved ones.

What’s on McDonald’s Christmas menu?

McDonald’s Christmas menu is now in stores, and there is a range of delicious treats to enjoy this festive season.

Burger fans will be able to feast on the new double Big Mac, which is quite literally a Big Mac, doubled.

The indulgent treat features four burger patties instead of two, accompanied by sesame seed bun, Big Mac sauce, cheese, lettuce and onions.

Now you can buy the double Big Mac on its own for £4.19, or as part of a meal with a side and a drink for £5.69.

Also included on the menu is a new Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich.

This features two pieces of crispy chicken topped with spicy jerk sauce, bacon, pepper jack cheese, onion and lettuce in a sourdough bun.

You can get the Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich on its own for £4.39 or as a meal for £5.69.

For fans of cheese over the Christmas period, McDonald’s cheese melt dippers are back – either in a snack size for £1.79 or a share box for £4.79.

In terms of sweet treats, McDonald’s are launching a suitably festive dessert – the Celebrations McFlurry.

Served in both mini (99p) and regular (£1.39) sizes McDonald’s signature McFlurry ice cream will be topped with pieces of Maltesers, Galaxy, Mars, and Twix before finishing with a caramel sauce.

And festive coffee fans will be pleased with McDonald’s offering – as they have added a salted caramel latte (£1.68) to their hot drinks range.

The drink is described by McDonald’s as: “A large shot of espresso blended with steamed milk and salted caramel flavour syrup and topped with a swirl of cream and a sprinkle of caramel sugar dusting.”
