Sophie, Countess of Wessex's body language with Edward 'more practical' than 'romantic'

Speaking to Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James claimed Sophie was reserved at the time of her wedding.

Judi said: “Edward looked keen to show himself as a bit of a regal charmer doing all the dominant stuff while Sophie stood beautiful and slightly shyly by his side.”

Over the years, however, Sophie seemed to grow more comfortable and confident with her role.

“Sophie has always looked like one of the most quietly self-assured and calm royals but her confidence signals have definitely increased over the years,” the expert added.

DON’T MISS

“She appears to have exceeded expectations. Sophie has stepped into the royal spotlight with elegant, calm-looking ease and no fussing or emotional displays.

“Her maturity and experience, and her rather old-school style of royal behaviour helps create the sense of continuity that the royal institution thrives on.”

Sophie’s traditional approach to her working role may have helped her take on her duties easily.

The mother-of-two is also believed to have a close relationship with her in-laws, particularly the Queen.

This could have been helped by Sophie’s unfussy transition into the Royal Family, Judi continued.

Even when the couple posed for official engagement photos, Judi explained they kept public affection to a minimum, which is traditionally done by royals.

Commenting on their engagement, the expert added: “Edward and Sophie looked more practical and less romantic.

“Dressed in suits that looked right for a day at the office, their poses looked more professional too.

“Take Sophie’s hand out of Edward’s arm and they could be business colleagues posing together for a corporate photo.”

Since their wedding, Sophie and Edward have become the parents of two children and continued to carry out royal engagements.

Judi suggested they have found different roles in the Royal Family which seem to work well for them.

She added: “The more recent poses between the couple have been a revelation though. Both Edward and Sophie appeared to have matured into very different roles from their idealised wedding poses and this evolution seems to have worked well, meaning they look happier, more relaxed and perhaps even more in love than they did back then.”
