Official data shows gender pay gap grows as women age

The gender pay gap grows as women age with the over-50s suffering the biggest disparity, according to official data. 

The average salary of women working full time in their 50s was 23 per cent less than men of the same age, while women in their 60s earned 25 per cent less than equivalent men, according to analysis of Office for National Statistics figures by jobs site Rest Less.

This difference widens as workers get older as women’s incomes decline more rapidly, falling to £28,556 on average in their 50s and to just £23,903 on average in their 60s.
