Sir David Attenborough, 94, has been working on his documentaries from his home in London more often recently due to the coronavirus lockdown. However, the natural historian has now admitted he actually prefers to avoid flying overseas to film his BBC series, including his highly anticipated new programme, A Perfect Planet, due to his age.
When quizzed on whether he plans to travel abroad again to film in the future when restrictions are eased, David divulged: “No, not a lot.”
Explaining why he dislikes boarding planes for work, the star continued: “It’s probably a fact of age, but I was finding my heart was sinking deeper and deeper into my boots every time I walked up into an aircraft and looked down that long line and thought, ‘I’m going to be here for another 24 hours.’
“It didn’t make my heart lift with pleasure.”
Sir David also revealed he has only left the house twice in nine months during the pandemic.

“All I’m saying is that for me, personally, I have not suffered very much during the last nine months.”
Elsewhere, Sir David quit Instagram last month after breaking the world record for the fastest time an account had gained one million followers.
On his Instagram page, a statement was shared revealing the account is no longer active, saying: “Account no longer active. Legacy of stories from David Attenborough & A Life On Our Planet team.”
“View highlights to follow inspiring accounts,” it concluded.
The documentary filmmaker joined the social media app on September 24 shortly before his new film A Life on Our Planet was released on Netflix.
The caption in his very first post revealed the account would be run with the help of his documentary team.
“Social media isn’t David’s usual habitat so while he’s recorded messages solely for Instagram, like the one in this post, we’re helping to run this account,” the post began.
“In case you’re wondering, ‘we’ are Jonnie and Colin and we worked with David on A Life On Our Planet.
“So, as well as sharing the messages he’s recorded especially for this account we’ll also post some exclusive clips and behind the scenes content.”
