Dominic Calvert-Lewin compared to Cristiano Ronaldo by Everton assistant coach

‘He has ALL the attributes to be the same’: Dominic Calvert-Lewin compared to Cristiano Ronaldo by Everton assistant coach following striker’s prolific start to the season

  • Davide Ancelotti has compared Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Cristiano Ronaldo
  • The young Everton striker has scored 14 goals in 16 games so far this season
  • Calvert-Lewin also scored on his England debut against Wales in October
  • He is a big reason Carlo Ancelotti’s high-flyers are fourth in the Premier League

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo by Everton’s assistant coach following his prolific start to the season.

The young striker is enjoying an impressive run of form for Everton, having notched 14 goals in 16 games across all competitions.

He kept up that streak when he scored on his international debut in October, and Davide Ancelotti believes he shares similarities with Ronaldo – one of many great strikers his father Carlo has coached.

‘He is a special player,’ the Everton coach told Talksport. ‘He has fantastic abilities.

‘Game-by-game you can see his improvement and how he is able to make the difference in this league. It’s not easy to make the difference.

‘Especially from a physical point of view, it’s difficult to see a player in this league that is better than the others because the level is really high.

‘But Dominic is able to impress from this point of view.’

‘I think he has all [the attributes] to be the same [as Ronaldo and other strikers Ancelotti has coached].

‘Of course, he is at the beginning of his way. But as I said, game-by-game, I’m seeing big improvements. Also in training he is working very hard to improve.

‘The special ability he has, that all the big talents have, is that he knows his body really well. He knows his feelings really well and that’s not so common.

‘For example, Ronaldo was a player like this. He was able to understand his body.’

Calvert-Lewin has been one of Everton’s standout players in the first half of the season, with the Toffees flying high in fourth place.

One thing Calvert-Lewin and Ronaldo do seem to have in common is their aerial ability, with the striker scoring on his first England appearance with a towering header in a friendly against Wales.

The 23-year-old has scored 11 times in the Premier League, placing him joint second in the list of top scorers alongside Jamie Vardy and Son Heung-min.

That includes a fine hat-trick he scored on the second day of the season to help Everton demolish West Brom 5-2 and a double in their 3-2 win at Fulham.

He will be looking to add to the hat-trick he scored to down West Ham in the last round of the Carabao Cup when Everton come up against Manchester United in the quarter-finals tonight.
