George Clooney admits Tom Cruise's on-set rant at Covid-flouting staff is 'not his style'

George Clooney, 59, has spoken out after his fellow Hollywood actor and friend Tom Cruise, 58, furiously lashed out at a pair of crew members after they stood within two-metres of each other while filming the seventh instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise in the UK, where he is not only playing main character Ethan Hunt, but is also one of the main producers. In an audio file obtained by The Sun, Cruise can be heard lambasting the pair of rule breakers and while Clooney agreed that he called them out, he admitted he would’ve handled the situation differently. Filming was supposed to have started on Mission: Impossible 7 back in February, though it was delayed due to the spread of COVID-19.

Filming finally resumed in early September, although production was briefly shut down gain after 12 crew members tested positive.

Clooney was promoting his own new film The Midnight Sky in a virtual interview on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday when he was asked to address the viral rant.

“He didn’t overreact because it is a problem,” the A-Lister defended his colleague.

“I have a friend who’s an AD on another TV show who just had the almost exact same thing happen with not quite as far out a response.”

He shrugged as he noted he wouldn’t have “pulled people out” in such a way or “gone that big”.

He continued: “You’re in a position of power and it’s tricky, right?

“You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he’s absolutely right about that.”

He weighed up the reasons behind Cruise’s outburst as the coronavirus pandemic has seen millions lose loved ones, jobs and their livelihoods in the space of a year.

“If the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs. People have to understand that and have to be responsible,” Clooney added.

“It’s just not my style to to take everybody to task that way.

“I’m on the phone with every f***ing studio at night, insurance companies, producers, and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies.”

He went on: “We are creating thousands of jobs you m****rf*****s. I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever!

“And if you don’t do it you’re fired, and I see you do it again you’re f***ing gone. And if anyone in this crew does it that’s it.”

The Hollywood hero was seemingly furious all his efforts to keep filming going during the pandemic could be at risk.

The actor fumed: “And you… don’t you ever f***ing do it again. No apologies.

“You can tell it to the people that are losing their f***ing homes because our industry has shut down. It’s not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education.

“That’s what I sleep with every night. The future of this f***ing industry.”

He continued: “So sorry I’m beyond your apologies. I have told you and now I want it and if you don’t do it you’re out.

“We’re not shutting this f***ing movie down! Is it understood? If I see it again you’re f***ing gone,” Tom argued.

“And if you can’t be reasonable and I can’t deal with your logic, you’re fired.”

Mission: Impossible 7 is set for release on 19 November 2021.
