Lamborghini builds a one-off SC20 supercar that will hit speeds in excess of 200mph

If you’re spending six figures on a supercar, you’d rightfully expect it to have a roof – and a windscreen.

However, this one-off special built for a customer by Lamborghini has neither of those luxuries. What it does have, though, is a fire-spitting 759bhp V12 engine, meaning it will be able to hit speeds in excess of 200mph.

Called the SC20, it has been produced by the Italian firm’s Squadra Corse racing department and is arguably one of Lamborghini’s most bonkers models in recent history.

The Fast and the Roofless: This is the one-of-a-kind Lamborghini SC20 track car, which has been built to order for one of the Italian brand's well-heeled customers

The roofless track-only machine is inspired by limited-edition Lambos from the past, notably the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J and Veneno hypercar.

But it’s the Aventador SVJ Roadster that the SC20 is most closely based on, using the same naturally aspirated 6.5-litre 12-litre powerplant, which boasts a staggering 720Nm of torque.

In that version, the top speed in a whopping 218mph, with acceleration from 0-to-62mph taking a mere 2.9 seconds – flooring it from 0-to-124mph takes just 8.8 seconds.

This monumental amount of power and performance is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox and is set to be an utter handful when the owner takes it to the circuit.

The SC20 is not only roofless but also windowless, with not a panel of glass for a windscreen or even a side window

The track car’s shape has been penned by the Centro Stile team based at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters and the customer has reportedly been involved in the design process from the initial drawing stage to overseeing its final production.

The bodywork is predominantly carbonfibre and features a massive adjustable carbon rear wing.

The spoiler can be set in one of three positions – low, medium and ‘high load’ – so the driver can adjust just how much downforce they want the car to generate on the move.

There’s a huge rear splitter and the tail lights are the same as those used on the £3million Sian Roadster, which is inspired by a Lambo speedboat

Of course, being a Lamborghini, the two doors open upwards rather than out and – without a roof or glass windows – should weight well below 1,500kg.

It wouldn't be a Lamborghini supercar if it didn't have upward-opening doors. With no roof, the design looks particularly dramatic

The white and blue paint job and matching interior was specifically requested by the buyer as well as the lashings of carbonfibre in the dashboard, door panels, centre console and steering wheel detailing.

As for the four wheels, all are lightweight aluminium rims, though they are 20 inches in diameter at the front and 21 inches at the rear, giving the car a pitched and aggressive stance, even at a standstill.

Ensuring it grips the road with racing-car precision, the tyres are track-focused Pirelli P Zero Corsas.

The Italian car firm hasn't confirmed the price tag, though expect it to ring in at close to - if not in excess of - £1million; the Aventador SVJ Roadster it is loosely based on costs from £384,146

Speaking about the SC20 as it was unveiled today, Maurizio Reggiani, chief technical officer of Automobili Lamborghini, said: ‘The SC20 is a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness and advanced design.

‘It is also an example of applying our V12 engine and carbonfibre to a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries the Lamborghini DNA.’

The Italian car firm hasn’t confirmed the price tag, though expect it to ring in at close to – if not in excess of – £1million; the Aventador SVJ Roadster it is loosely based on costs from £384,146.

Not that the price should be something to concern you, as the built-to-order machine is unlikely to be put onto the market anytime soon by the trackday-loving owner.

As far as car design goes, this is definitely at the extreme end of the spectrum. The rear lights are the same as those used on the £3million Sian Roadster, which is inspired by a Lambo speedboat

The Lamborghini SC20 is not road legal, so can only be used on the track. It should tip the scales at less than 1,500kg - around the same as a small family hatchback
