YouTubers accused of child exploitation for 'prank' in which 7-YEAR-OLD pretends to get first period

A young YouTube couple is being slammed as ‘creepy,’ ‘disgusting,’ and ‘exploitative’ for filming a video prank in which a seven-year-old pretends to get her first period.

Ryan Ploof and his fiancée Danielle Renaee, both 21, share plenty of controversial pranks on their YouTube channel, ‘Ryan and Danielle,’ and have managed to rack up 687,000 subscribers on the platform.

But after they cast Danielle’s seven-year-old niece in a recent clip about menstruation, Twitter users are saying they went too far, accusing the young couple of child exploitation and very bad judgement.

Ryan and Danielle have posted some questionable ‘pranks’ before. Past videos titles include ‘Ignoring My Girlfriend for 24 HOURS!’, ‘Can I Make My Fiancé Turned On While He’s Half Asleep! *HILARIOUS*’,  and ‘Moving Out Prank On BOYFRIEND! *He Cries*’.

But a video that they uploaded on December 6 includes a cameo from Danielle’s seven-year-old niece, Jasmine — who pretends to get her first period when she is home alone with Ryan,

‘HAVING HER FIRST PERIOD IN FRONT OF MY FIANCÉ Prank! *CUTEST REACTION*’ reads the video’s title.

In the clip, Jasmine comes out of the bathroom in a bit of a panic and tells Ryan that she got her first period.

She collapses on the bed, and Ryan tries to comfort her, telling it’s ‘normal.’

‘It’s not normal for a seven-year-old to have a period. Is that really normal?’ Jasmine answers.

Ryan continues to try to be understanding and to comfort her, and even finds her a heating pad to make her cramps feel better.

At one point, Jasmine makes it clear she knows nothing about periods, and is apparently repeating lines that Danielle fed her.

Finally, when Danielle comes back home, they tell him it was all for a video, with the little girl giggling and jumping around.

While Jasmine appears to be OK for now, commenters are horrified that the couple would include her in a video at all — especially about something she doesn’t understand.

‘How do you read this kind of title back to yourself and think okay that’s great time to post,’ wrote one Twitter user.

‘YouTube needs to crack down on the exploitation of minors in family channels. Just like [there] are laws for child actors,’ said another,

‘When are these family vloggers gonna get it through their heads to stop exploiting children’s experiences for profit?! I understand it’s a prank but when she gets older she will probably wish this video wasn’t put out there. not to mention how weirdly predatory the video sounds,’ wrote a third.

More commenters on Twitter called the video ‘creepy,’ insane,’ ‘disgusting,’ ‘vile’ and ‘so weird.’

‘WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL??? I don’t whether I’m more disgusted she thought this was ok to film, edit and upload this?? Or the fact that the poor young girl is being used like this?!?!?! How do people think this is ok???? It’s not really that funny!!’ wrote one more.

Another chimed in: ‘I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Kids are not content, they’re kids. Prank or not, this is foul! So sick of these family/couples prank channels. P.s. and this is just me being petty but the whole *reaction* thing they all do in their titles is f***ing annoying!

Insider reported on the prevalence of these ‘period pranks,’ but YouTube told the site that they don’t violate its guidelines.
