Lizzo defends herself after getting slammed for promoting 'diet culture' with smoothie detox posts

Lizzo defended herself after getting slammed for posting about a smoothie detox diet, telling critics to she and fellow ‘big girls’ should be able to do ‘whatever the f**k they want with their body.’

The Juice singer, 32, explained how her decision to detox had nothing to do with weight loss, but was instead about getting her health back in balance after a stressful November.

‘As you know, I would normally be so afraid and ashamed to post things like this online because I feel like, as a big girl, people just expect if you are doing something for health, you’re doing it for a dramatic weight loss, and that is not the case,’ Lizzo began in a social media video.

‘In reality, November stressed me the f**k out, I drank a lot, I ate a lot of spicy things and things that f**ked my stomach up. And I wanted to reverse it and get back to where I was,’ she continued.

‘I’m so proud of myself, I’m proud of my results, my sleep has improved, my hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f**kin’ body, my f**kin’ skin, the whites of my eyes.’

‘Like, I feel and look like a bad b***h. And that’s it. I’m a big girl who did a smoothie detox. And I wanted to share that with you guys. I got exactly what I wanted out of it, and every big girl should do whatever the f**k they want with their body.’

Yesterday the songstress caused a stir as she posed in front of the camera for a post about a ’10-day smoothie detox.

The post made her trusty followers question how and why the body-positive star bought into ‘diet culture.’

Lizzo sported a bright red sports bra with matching leggings while showing off her figure for the camera.

She switched things up with various athleisure while documenting her journey with the 10-day program.

In addition to drinking shakes, the Because I Love You singer showed off a massive jug of ‘beauty water’ chilling in the fridge.

Fans were shocked to see their favorite singer taking part in an online fad after spending the bulk of her career advocating for more inclusive bodies to take space in an otherwise thin world.

‘Seeing you promote diet culture is breaking my heart,’ one fan wrote in the clip.

Another follower wrote: ‘Whaaat?! No no no! Detoxes don’t work and they definitely do not promote body positivity.’

In a TikTok video posted earlier this month, Lizzo said: ‘I came home, and I took my clothes off to take a shower, and I just started having all of these really negative thoughts about myself.

‘Like, you know, “What’s wrong with me?” Maybe everything, all the mean things people say about me are true. And, you know, “Why am I so disgusting?” and hating my body.’

Lizzo — who’s full name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson — added that she was finding difficulty saying anything positive and allowed herself to sit with the negative emotion if only for a minute.

‘Normally I would have some positive thing to say to get me out of this, but I don’t, and that’s OK too,’ she said. ‘I think these are normal. They happen to everybody. They happen to the best of us. We are the best of us. And I just have to know that tomorrow how I feel in here [she pointed to her head] is gonna change.

‘And I can only hope that it changes for the better. But I know I’m beautiful, I just don’t feel it. But I know I’m going to get through it.’
