Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani injury update

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed he will have Anthony Martial back for tomorrow’s Manchester derby but a decision is yet to be made on striker Edinson Cavani. The attacking duo were sorely missed in midweek as United crashed out of the Champions League against RB Leipzig with a 3-2 defeat in Germany.

United were slow out of the blocks and the lack of familiarity in attack was evident from the first whistle, despite the team’s late efforts to spark another memorable comeback.

Now the Red Devils can right the wrongs of Leipzig against their noisy neighbours Manchester City, who have majorly improved in recent weeks following a slow start to the campaign.

Solskjaer will be delighted to welcome back Martial and the Frenchman is set to play a part at Old Trafford: “Anthony will definitely be involved so he’s cleared.”

But the United boss is still sweating on the fitness of in-form Cavani though and said: “Edinson (Cavani) has been on the grass but I’ll make a decision later on.”

Cavani revealed earlier this week that he turned down Juventus and Inter Milan for United due to his loyalty to Napoli, where he spent four seasons.

He said: “I saw it and I am very excited. It is yet another demonstration of affection from Naples that I will never forget.

“The emotion is doubled seeing my children admire that mural. It cannot be explained. To the fans I only say thank you. I will always be grateful to them.

“It is for this reason that I said no to many Italian clubs including Juventus, who called me often, and also Inter.

“I couldn’t make such a gesture to the Neapolitans.”
