Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho explains why Harry Winks walked down tunnel after coming off

Another player to go down the tunnel midway through the match was Dele Alli, though he later returned to his seat in the stands after what was presumably a toilet break.

Mourinho explained of the unused playmaker: “Let’s not run away from the reality, a player that is not on the bench and realises that with five changes he is not one of the players, of course he is not a happy player.

“I wouldn’t expect him to be happy. But every player that is on the bench, or leaves the pitch in cold weather with me they can go to the dressing room – I even prefer it when that happens.

“I do not keep everyone happy. How can I? I believe all of them are happy because we are winning but I do not think everybody is happy at all, but that is the nature of  football and I cannot make miracles.

“I am happy but it is an impossible job for every manager to keep every player happy. You go to every club even the ones with less potential than us people who do not play are not happy.”

The Portuguese coach was meanwhile pleased with the performance of goalscorer Lo Celso, who netted his fifth strike of the season across all competitions.

Mourinho added: “He was at a high level last season but got an injury and didn’t have a pre-season.

“He’s playing in the Europa League and coming off the bench in the Premier League.

“He played the last match well and this match very well. This is more like normal Gio. When he’s fit he can show that the intensity is there.
