  • Jose Mourinho’s team are currently top and two points ahead of the Blues

Chelsea’s ‘winning culture’ gives them a better chance of lifting the Premier League title than current table-toppers Tottenham, according to Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.

The Blues are currently third, two points behind Spurs and Liverpool, and have not lost since their 2-0 defeat by Jurgen Klopp’s side in the second game of the season.

Chelsea held Tottenham to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge which was followed up with a 3-1 victory over Leeds. Neville, who believes Chelsea deserved to beat Spurs, said Frank Lampard’s side have ‘gone up in his estimations’ and picked out N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva as the key players who could win them the title.

‘Chelsea are impressing me, they have a real chance,’ he said on The Gary Neville Podcast.

‘I think Chelsea have more of a chance [than Tottenham for the title]. They have Kante, they have Thiago Silva, players that could navigate them to it.

‘There’s a winning culture, [Roman] Abramovic wins trophies. They have good players and players that can do the ugly side of the game. They’re a real threat.’

Chelsea have conceded the fewest number of goals in the Premier League, a stat which shows a dramatic improvement from last season.

In the 2019-2020 campaign, Lampard’s side conceded the most goals of all the teams who finished in the top ten.

They are also just one goal behind leading scorers Liverpool and Neville highlighted the Blues’ adaptability when it comes to attacking and defending.

He added: ‘They won 4-0 in Seville and then ran Leeds off the pitch. They’re an adaptable team, a team that can take on what Lampard wants them to do.

‘One week it’s “I want you to change, sit off, be measured, don’t get hit by the Mourinho trick and get counterpunched. Sit back, we’ll get chances and we’ll win 1-0”. He made sure they didn’t lose the game and that’s a mature coach that does that.’

Tottenham play Liverpool at Anfield on December 16 and a draw could see Chelsea go level on points if they win their next two matches against Everton and Wolves.
