Mesut Ozil ‘still believes he can secure a move to a top club despite being frozen out by Mikel Arteta’… but Arsenal outcast is unlikely to leave until his £350,000-a-week contract expires next summer

  • Ozil is unlikely to depart in January and is instead set to move on next summer

Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil is confident that he will be able to secure a move to another top club when he leaves next summer.

Ozil hasn’t played a competitive game for the Gunners since March, with Mikel Arteta electing to leave the midfielder out of his Premier League and Europa League squads for the first half of the season.

As reported by The Mirror, despite his lack of playing time Ozil is unlikely to leave Arsenal in January as his £350,000-a-week contract includes loyalty bonuses for him staying until the deal expires next summer.

Arsenal have the option to register Ozil in February but it is becoming increasingly apparent that his time at the club is nearing an end.

The 32-year-old believes that there will still be strong interest in him given his quality and experience.

Arsenal have scored just 10 goals in the Premier League this season and some supporters have called for Ozil to be reinstated.

Ozil featured prominently after Arteta was appointed midway through last season but subsequently fell out of favour.

A move to an Italian or French club is a possibility for Ozil, while there have also been suggestions that he could move to a Turkish side given his heritage.

Arteta’s side certainly missed Ozil’s creativity as they slipped to a second consecutive Premier League defeat on Sunday, at bitter rivals Tottenham.

The Gunners have won just one of their last seven outings in the league, and are winless in their last four.

Arsenal have slipped down to 15th in the table, but are seven points clear of Burnley in the relegation zone.
