Vikings season 6 part 2 trailer: Has Floki's death been confirmed as fans spot absence?

Vikings season six, part two will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on December 30, and fans had been waiting a long time for an official trailer. The preview finally arrived on December 2 and showed Bjorn Ironside (played by Alexander Ludwig) recovering from his injury, and Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) discovering the ‘golden land’. However, one character missing from the trailer was Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) and fans are fearing the worst.

Why is Floki missing from the Vikings trailer?

Vikings season six, part B is the final instalment in the Vikings saga and will wrap up with the story with a satisfying ending.

One character whose fate is still undecided is Floki, who was the friend of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his sons.

Floki travelled to Iceland to discover a new settlement, but he ended up falling out with the group and took off on his own.

Fans last saw him entering a cave, with a crucifix inside, which ended up collapsing in on him.

Viewers were left wondering whether Floki died in the cave, and they were hoping to catch a glimpse of him in the new trailer.

Sadly, he did not seem to appear and they now fear he really is dead – but all is yet to be revealed.

Even if Floki does not feature in the final episodes, his demise should definitely be addressed one way or another.

His character was one of the most pivotal of the series, as he had killed Ragnar’s friend Athelstan (George Blagden) and had chosen to take his own path.

He is believed to be a higher being or even a god, as even characters like The Seer (John Kavanagh).

Therefore it would be unusual for the final episodes to ignore Floki, despite the finale’s main focus on characters like Bjorn and Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen).

Actor Skarsgård frightened fans when he said on Instagram that Floki “may not have made it out of the cave”.

The star shared a poster for the final season saying: “Final season! December 30! Can’t wait to watch it and finish this long epic journey once and for all! @historyvikings”

But he did not address whether his character would return for the final 10 episodes.

Fans commented on the new trailer for the final episodes, with one saying: “Where is Floki?!”. Some fans believed they spotted him talking to Bjorn from his bedside, but they were mistaken as the man is a supporting character with some resemblance.

Commenting on a separate sneak peek for the second half of season six, another fan said: “At this point, I just want to know where Floki is.”

Ubbe’s primary objective in Iceland was to discover new lands, but at the same time, he had hoped to find Floki.

Some believed he was already dead, and Ubbe started to think Kjetill Flatnose (Adam Copeland) and Othere (Ray Stevenson) had something to do with his disappearance.

Ubbe is expected to find new land, perhaps in North America, in the final episodes and there is still a chance he could stumble across Floki along the way.

Besides the battle between Bjorn and Ivar in season six, there is a more poignant battle ensuing – between Christianity and paganism.

Ivar joined Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky) who had planned to cleanse Scandinavia of its pagan ways.

Floki was known to have stayed true to his pagan beliefs, and it is why he killed Athelstan in the first place.

Therefore he may return in a more symbolic way to prove how the Vikings were not prepared to give up their pagan customs.

On the other hand, Floki may have turned to Christianity as an act of penance for killing Athelstan, and this theory has been supported by some fans.

History explains how in real life, Vikings did eventually submit to Christianity, so Oleg is likely to prevail.

But whatever happens, fans are keen to see Floki’s character return in some form or another.

Fans commented on Skarsgård’s latest Instagram post, with one saying: “We will finally see Floki again???”.

Another responded: “I hope and think he survived. I think there is something going on with Othere. Floki becoming a Christian would be pure irony, but I think it’s possible too.”

Some viewers have even suggested Floki and Athelstan will see each other again in Valhalla – a place where Vikings are believed to pass on to after they have faced a noble death.

Brad Beale, a VP for Prime Video, hinted the characters’ fates will become clear by the end of the series.

He said: “On December 30, Prime members in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Ireland will be the first to learn the fates of the beloved characters as the epic drama concludes in the final 10 episodes.”

The show’s creator Michael Hirst said fans should be prepared for plenty of surprises along the way.
