Teyana Taylor, 29, announces her retirement from the music industry as she cites the reasons as ‘feeling super underappreciated’ and ‘overlooked’ as an artist

She gave birth to her second child, a baby girl, in early September 2020.

And less than three months later, Teyana Taylor announced a different type of news.

The artist, 29, revealed via her Instagram Friday he has decided to retire from the music industry, citing the reason being that she feels ‘super under appreciated.’

The mother of two shared the news on her Spotify end of the year statistics – called #2020ARTISTWRAPPED.

The singer had 162.8 million streams on Spotify with 15.2 million listeners across 92 countries – totally 8.4 million hours.

To kick off her lengthy statement, Teyana said: ‘Wow, who did that? Y’all did that! Thank you,’ adding a heart emoji.

The singer noted that her decision came due to feeling under appreciated, overlooked and not getting support from the ‘machine’ – which seemingly is either her record label or the music industry itself.

She continued: ‘I ain’t gone front in times of feeling super under appreciated as a artist, receiving little to no real push from the “machine”, constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked, I mean the list on and on lol.’ 

Teyana continued: ‘I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world!’

She finished off her statement with a heartfelt thanks to her fans and supporters around the world.

‘To all my supporters from day 1 & all my new ones I love you and I thank you for everything & don’t worry y’all know.’

She signed it off however with an interesting note, seemingly hinting that she is going to pursue another passion or end up coming back one day to singing.

Teyana wrote: ‘ All hustlers have the understanding that when one door closes another will open… either that or I’m pickin da locks petunia!!! So wassup.’

Teyana has released three studio albums, they are: VII, K.T.S.E. and The Album with the record label GOOD Music, Kanye West’s label, and also The Island Def Jam Music Group.

She also notably featured in Kanye’s music video for Fade, where she performed a dance routine inspired by Flashdance.

Teyana is married to Iman Shumpert, a 30-year-old professional basketball player; they shared two daughters: Iman Tayla Jr (aka Junie) four, and Rue Rose, born on September 6, 2020.

Teyana and Iman tied the knot October 1, 2016.
