Further research discovered that Everton fans have been the most affected by football moving behind closed doors since March, when the UK went into a national lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

West Brom, Leicester, Liverpool and Leeds supporters have also been heavily affected by the shutdown – with only several clubs able to open their doors to a small number of fans this week.

Arsenal welcomed back 2,000 fans on Thursday night for their Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna while several other topflight sides prepare to welcome back the same number of spectators back this weekend.

Brighton, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham will welcome back up to 2,000 fans as the Premier League takes its first step towards normality in the fight against covid-19.

For club’s located in Tier 3 areas, they will have to wait longer before they can return to stadiums and former Chelsea star Joe Cole admitted that he ‘shared the fans’ frustrations.

He said: ‘I definitely share the fans’ frustrations with trying to enjoy watching football during lockdown.

‘I’m trying to watch the game and there’s all these distractions – the phone’s going off, I’ve got to answer the door, kids running around – and I’m missing a lot of the key moments!

‘The survey shows that we really are bad at doing two things at once.’
