Aljaz Skorjanec admits time apart from wife Janette will be ‘harder’ after Strictly exit

Speaking ahead of Clara Amfo’s exit from the competition last weekend, Aljaz Skorjanec, 30, discussed living separately from his wife and fellow Strictly Come Dancing professional Janette Manrara, 37, during the show, due to coronavirus rules. In order for the BBC hit show to go ahead amid the pandemic, dancing duos formed their own bubbles respectively and are not allowed to mix with others on the show.

While still in the competition, the dancer admitted living separately from Janette would become more difficult if one of their dance partners left the show.

Aljaz began by explaining the married couple were allowed to see each other on a Friday and Saturday in the studio, but had to keep a two-metre distance.

On living apart during the show, he added: “The two of us are so focused, you know, with jobs, so at the moment it’s OK because we’re so busy, but if one of us [were to] be eliminated and then… one of us [would] have to be at home on their own.

“That’s [when] I think it would get a little bit harder,” he went on to say on Decathlon’s new podcast, The Power of 10.

Aljaz and Clara became the latest dancing duo to be eliminated from the show after a dance-off with Karen Hauer and Jamie Laing last week.

The pair scored 19 out of 30 points for their energetic Jive routine from the judges, but were marked down for mistakes.

After the dance-off, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas decided to save Karen and Jamie, while Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Aljaz and Clara.

Following this, the pair took to the dance floor to have one final dance in front of their fellow contestants and judges.

From the sidelines, Janette was seen wiping away tears during their emotional goodbye.

The dancer is still currently in the running to win the Glitterball trophy with her dance partner HRVY.

Last weekend, they became the first couple to score 30 points from the judges this series.

Following his dance partner’s exit, Aljaz said he will be rooting for the pair to win the show.

Janette also took to her Instagram page to share an emotional post about the duo’s elimination.

Alongside a picture of her spouse and Clara, she wrote: “So sad to say goodbye to @claraamfo and @aljazskorjanec!

“They brought so much joy to the dance floor! Clara is such a beautiful woman inside and out and a fantastic role model for so many!

“It was a pleasure watching her shine on @bbcstrictly, a show that means so much to her! I’m sure she will ‘keep dancing’!”

She added: “And as for my husband, you were a dream partner as always! I absolutely LOVE watching you dance!

“I cannot wait to hold you tight in my arms! I love you with all my heart!”

In response to her post, Radio One DJ Clara wrote: “LOVE YOU firecracker and Thank You, you are truly golden *starts tangoing like you and @hrvy* Thank You for everything xxxxx.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.25pm on BBC One.
