He passed away shortly after Monty wrote the last words for his book My Garden World.
The gardener previously told fans, via Twitter, that the book was dedicated to his memory.
It celebrates local wildlife and is a personal look at the immediate world around the author.
America Gardens, as the title suggests, looks at American gardens with photographer Derry Moore and went on sale in September.
His third book, The Complete Gardener: A practical, imaginative guide to every aspect of gardening is released in March next year.
