Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes swipe at Ander Herrera over Fred red card incident

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken a dig at Ander Herrera after his side’s 3-1 defeat to PSG. The Red Devils fell to a fourth loss of the campaign at Old Trafford on a night where Fred received his marching orders. A Neymar brace and Marquinhos strike gave the Ligue 1 giants all three points.

Manchester United went into the match against PSG aiming to seal their place in the knockout stages of the competition.

But, on a disappointing night under the lights at Old Trafford, Solskjaer’s side fell short.

PSG took the lead through Neymar, who blasted past David De Gea from close range to open the scoring and set the tone for what was to follow.

United levelled through Marcus Rashford but PSG restored their lead when Marquinhos struck with just over 20 minutes left on the clock.

Fred was then dismissed, with the Brazil international picking up a second yellow card for a tackle on former Red Devil Herrera.

And Solskjaer has taken a swipe at the Spain international, saying: “I thought Fred was lucky to stay on when I saw the referee going to look at the screen [in the first half].

Solskjaer was, though, happy with his side’s display.

“It was a very good game which deserved fans,” added the 47-year-old.

“With a bit more clinical finishing we should have finished the game. They were there for the taking [at one stage].

“We had some big chances. The difference when you get to the big games is the clinical moments.

“If Marquinhos had bigger studs on he’d have been offside. It’s marginal. You can’t really put your finger on the deciding factors.”

United captain Harry Maguire also spoke after the defeat and said: “Disappointing night.

“We wanted to win the game, win the group. Football is a game of fine margins.

“We had better chances. Their two goals are scrappy goals – richochet and pinball around the box. I feel we deserved something.

“You’ve got to take your chances and not give away soft goals.

“We’re still in control of going through to the knockout stages.”
