Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Edinson Cavani after controversial Instagram post

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Edinson Cavani after the Manchester United striker issued an apology in the wake of a controversial Instagram post, shared on his social media after the 3-2 win at Southampton. The Football Association are set to investigate the matter and could issue Cavani a three-match ban for his action.

Cavani and United are set to protest his innocence, after he stated that the use of the word “negrito” was an affectionate greeting to a friend.

The 33-year-old finally made his mark on Sunday, scoring twice at Southampton to flip the game on its head and to hand United all three points on the South Coast.

He was then forced to issue a statement, regarding the deleted post which was shared on his Instagram story.

“The message I posted after the game on Sunday was intended as an affectionate greeting to a friend, thanking him for his congratulations after the game. The last thing I wanted to do was cause offence to anyone,” Cavani said.
