‘I want to stay at Milan for a long time, but we’ll see what the club decides. I want to relish this moment as long as I can.’

Donnarumma has kept four clean sheets in nine matches for Milan so far this season, though one of his more impressive performances came against Fiorentina on Sunday.

Even without talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Rossoneri made early strides in the game and went two goals in front in the first-half through Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessie. The latter also missed a penalty later in the opening period to deny Milan a bigger advantage.

But the Serie A leaders were indebted to Donnarumma in the second period, who made a crucial stop against Franck Ribery to deny La Viola a route back into the game.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper also made an impressive low stop in the second-half from Fiorentina captain German Pezzella who tried to head past him from a corner.

Donnarumma’s display earned plaudits from Fiorentina manager Cesare Prandelli, who used to coach the Italian national team, who described the Milan goalkeeper’s role in his side’s defeat as ‘crucial’.

Prandelli claimed: ‘(Gianluigi) Donnarumma made two crucial saves. We need to start again from there. If he hadn’t saved (Frank) Ribery’s shot we could reopen the game.’

Despite being just 21-years-old, Donnarumma has surpassed 200 appearances for Milan in all competitions since his debut i 2015.

The goalkeeper is also the Rossoneri vice-captain and wore the armband for the opening three matches of the current Serie A season, keeping a clean sheet in all of them.

Donnarumma has also been capped 21 times by Italy and is Roberto Mancini’s first-choice option in goal.
