Kate Middleton body language shows her 'let rip' with 'passion' in new speech

Kate Middleton, 38, joined the Royal Family in 2011 and has been seen at royal events and engagements ever since. Speaking on her recent early years campaign today, the Duchess sat looking relaxed in a cream and blue striped chair. One body language expert has commented on her appearance.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James provided an insight into Kate Middleton’s body language.

The expert said: “Looking relaxed and in control of body language, Kate also takes ownership of her script here, giving the impression the words are her own and that she is speaking from the heart, while her gestures display an air of authority and precise thinking that we haven’t seen in the future queen before.

“She has dropped her usual straight-to-camera pose that can look a bit ‘mug shot’ for a longer piece like this and addressed the lens sitting angled in the chair with her left elbow on the arm of the chair to make her look more natural.

“This also tends to relax the facial muscles, meaning Kate is free to use a larger range of facial expressions and subtle nuances as she is speaking.”

For her keynote speech, Kate addressed issues that parents are facing in the pandemic.

While she looked relaxed, the body language expert explained that she does show signs of tension.

Judi added: “Overall, Kate manages to signal good levels of performer confidence. Her shoulders and her breathing lack obvious signs of tension and her chin is raised to suggest authority and a lack of inhibitions in front of the camera.”

Over the years, Kate’s confidence has grown and the expert suggests she may have had training for her appearances.

“The most telling hand gesture is a new one for Kate on screen. She employs her signature hand clasp but when she opens her hands she performs a whole rally of Precision Gestures, touching the tip of her index finger and her thumb together and aiming the gesture at the camera.

“This is a persuasive gesture of inspirational leadership. It is related to a signature gesture of Donald Trump, although he used it held high and in an exaggerated form that made it an overkill gesture.”

Judi explained that this could be a sign of her being passionate about the topic she is speaking about.

She said: “Used as Kate does here, it tells us that she knows her subject, is confident about the detail and keen to inspire her audience. Kate throws about fifteen or more of the Precision Gestures during her brief speech and it illustrates her desire to get her message across.”

Kate’s delivery was confident and she emphasised many different parts of her speech.

The expert added that this is a sign of genuinity.

Judi said: “Her timing sounds careful and there is a very well-executed pause to add to the emphasis when she says ‘I care…(pause)…hugely about this.’ We are used to hearing celebrities and politicians over-acting their messages but Kate delivers this strong line in a way that sounds genuine.”
