Joleon Lescott signs for FOURTH-TIER Racing Murcia aged 38, three years after retiring!

Joleon Lescott ACCIDENTALLY signs for Spanish fourth-tier club Racing Murcia after Manchester City title winner agreed to play an exhibition game but was then told they want to play him against a LaLiga team in the cup – three YEARS after he retired!

  • Joleon Lescott left Sunderland in June 2017 and has not played anywhere since
  • Now loan manager at City, Lescott thought he had signed up for an exhibition
  • But Racing Murcia’s announcement hints he will play in the Copa del Rey instead
  • Fourth-tier minnows Racing Murcia play LaLiga side Levante on December 16

Joleon Lescott walked into a bizarre situation on Friday when Spanish fourth-tier side Racing Murcia announced his signing – despite the central defender having retired in 2017.

Lescott, the former England international who is a loans manager at Manchester City, is understood to have agreed to turn out in an exhibition match next month, only to find out Racing plan on him starring in the Copa del Rey.

The minnows, who boast Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias on their books, host LaLiga strugglers Levante in an attractive first-round clash on December 16 and claimed on Friday that they want the 38-year-old to feature.

Ex-Everton defender Joleon Lescott, 38, has signed for fourth-tier Spanish side Racing Murcia

‘Our president Morris Pagniello and Racing Murcia are happy to announce the signing of English star Joleon Lescott,’ Racing said.

‘This first and historic signing allows the Racing Murcia project to be known internationally and to give relevance to a squad practically made up of players from the city of Murcia and the towns of the region.’

Pagniello was banned from football for eight months in 2015 for alleged involvement in match-fixing while at Monza in Italy.

The club president also claimed earlier this month that there was a ’50-50′ chance of landing Samuel Eto’o, while he also claims to be representing former City striker Mario Balotelli.

Whether Lescott, who has an acquaintance at Racing, now presses ahead and makes himself available for the cup match remains to be seen.

Lescott last appeared three-and-a-half years ago as Sunderland lost 5-1 against Chelsea.

He won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and League Cup with City after joining for £22million in 2009.

Racing – a club without a Wikipedia page – currently lie seventh in Group B of Group 13 on the fourth step of Spanish football’s pyramid following a 4-0 victory over Lorca in their first win of the season.

They club are based in Murcia, a city in southeastern Spain located 140 miles from Valencia.

They play their home games at Estadio de fútbol Municipal de Dolores de Pacheco, which can hold up to 3,500 fans.

Racing play local rivals Ciudad de Murcia on December 13 and will then host Levante in the Copa del Rey first round on December 16.
