Man Utd transfer news: Jadon Sancho speaks out, Christian Eriksen option, winger eyed

With the January transfer window only five weeks away, Premier League clubs are beginning to analyse potential new recruits to bolster their squads at the halfway point of the season. And Manchester United could be one of the busier clubs during the winter window.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have won their last three games in all competitions, defeats by Tottenham, Arsenal and Crystal Palace in the league, and Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League have highlighted the need for reinforcements.

United are already poised to welcome Atalanta winger Amad Diallo to the club in January, but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is expected to push for one or two additional deals with the Red Devils participating in four competitions.

With the rumour mill picking up speed, Express Sport rounds up the latest Manchester United transfer rumours.

Sancho opens up on ‘hard’ season after United saga

United target Jadon Sancho has opened up on his difficulties this season after dominating the transfer columns over the summer.

Borussia Dortmund ace Sancho was heavily linked with a move to United but remained in Germany after United refused to meet the Bundesliga side’s £108million asking price.

Sancho has endured a slow start to the season but has vowed to recapture his best form after bagging a goal and an assist in Dortmund’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Club Brugge on Tuesday.

“I am just happy that I am playing,” the 20-year-old England international told DAZN.

“I have coaches and teammates that believe in me. Recently, it’s been a hard situation for me.

“But it’s all about how I come back and have performances like this [against Brugge]. They will hopefully get me back to the top, how I was playing before.”

United an option for Inter outcast Eriksen

Reports in Italy have linked United with a surprise move for Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen.

As per Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the Red Devils are in the hunt to sign the Danish playmaker, who has failed to impress since joining the Nerazzurri from Tottenham Hotspur in January.

The link is somewhat surprising considering that United paid an initial £47m to land Bruno Fernandes, who performs a similar role to Eriksen, in January.

Should United pursue Eriksen, the report states that they would face competition from Arsenal, who are looking to bolster their creativity with Mesut Ozil having been frozen out of the first team by Mikel Arteta.

While former United striker Romelu Lukaku has thrived at Inter, Eriksen has struggled to adapt to Serie A with only one goal and two assists in 22 appearances.

United in the race to sign Villarreal winger

United are in the hunt to sign highly-rated Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze, as per La Razon.

As a right-sided winger, the Nigerian seems like a possible alternative to Sancho, but like the Dortmund attacker, he will not come cheap with his release clause said to be €80m.

Five other Premier League clubs – Liverpool, Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Everton – have also expressed an interest in the 21-year-old.

Chukwueze, who is under contract at Villarreal until 2023, is comfortable playing anywhere across the frontline and can even be used in midfield.

Last season, he managed three goals and two assists in 37 La Liga appearances and has one of each so far this term.
