Erling Haaland surpasses Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane in Champions League goalscoring charts

Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland surpasses legends Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane in Champions League goalscoring charts with incredible 16 strikes to his name already at the tender age of 20

Erling Haaland grabbed the headlines once again on Tuesday after netting twice during Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League.

And with his two goals, the Norwegian striker has incredibly overtaken Brazilian Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane in the Champions League goalscoring charts.

He may only be 20 years of age, but Haaland has now already scored 16 times in just 12 matches in Europe’s elite competition.

Brazil icon Ronaldo only managed to score 14 times in the Champions League throughout his career while former French midfielder Zidane also netted just 14 goals.

Haaland has also surpassed David Villa and Miroslav Klose, who both recorded 14 goals as well during their time playing in the Champions League.

Furthermore, Haaland also sits above the likes of Carlos Tevez, Olivier Giroud (both 13), Michael Owen, Diego Costa (both 11) Christian Vieri (10) and Dennis Bergkamp (7).

However, Haaland knows he has a huge way to go if he wants to write his name in the history books by becoming the Champions League’s highest ever goalscorer.

Juventus star and former Real Madrid man Cristiano Ronaldo sits top with an astonishing 132 goals in the Champions League while Lionel Messi is second with 118.

Raul (71), Robert Lewandowski (70) and Karim Benzema (67) make up the top five highest goalscorers in Europe’s top competition.

Haaland – who recently won the 2020 Golden Boy award – delivered the goods once again for Dortmund on Tuesday night to put the Bundesliga outfit on the cusp of a last-16 spot.

Haaland’s double means he now has six Champions League goals in just four matches this season – the most so far this campaign.

And he has also scored in seven successive games in all competitions with 12 goals so far in that run – including four times against Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga last Saturday.

The 20-year-old will be desperate to continue his incredible form in all competitions when Dortmund host Cologne in Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
