Chris Evans hits out at wife over Virgin Radio visit: 'How dya think we paid the mortgage'

Chris Evans, 54, recalled the time his wife Natasha Shishmanian visited the Virgin Radio studio and was astonished at the amount of controls a broadcast desk boasts. But the DJ was even more confused when she asked if he was actually able to use them all, and whether he knew how.

Having pathed a successful career in the broadcast industry for a fair few many years, Chris couldn’t quite get his head around the question.

“Remember when Tash came in for the first time and she saw the studio?” he asked his team.

His co-star Vassos Alexander giggled: “Yes! She said, ‘You know how to work all these?'”

The DJ sighed as he remarked: “How do you think we’ve been paying the mortgage for the past 15 years, you muppet!”

“She said, ‘Who does all this?!’ I do, ‘What, you know how to do all that?’

Dedicating the show that aired last year, to all things charity, the team were selling tickets for the popular music and motoring concert held in Cheshire and Hampshire, which raises funds for Children in Need.

This year like many other festivals, it was understandably cancelled due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.

But last year was a glowing success, and Tash was prompted to read out texts from listeners who had bought tickets and wanted to show their appreciation and excitement for this year’s event that sadly never happened.

But when she read out one particular message, Chris couldn’t help himself from taking a sly swipe at his wife after hearing what one listener was going to buy her husband for Christmas.

Tash read out the text: “’Good morning everyone, CarFest north and south sorted, just need to get my hubby a camper van for Christmas.’”

The whole studio started laughing at the generous idea for a gift.

“And I thought I had the greatest wife in the world,” Chris teased: “What’s her name again?

“CarFest tickets north and south and a campervan for Christmas – maybe she won the euro millions last night,” he giggled as his wife sat inches away.

Listeners know the sarcastic joke was made in jest as Chris often talks about his family on-air, gushing over how important they are to him.

The Chris Evans Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6:30am on Virgin Radio.
