Billie Lourd renovates mother Carrie Fisher's and grandmother Debbie Reynolds's homes as one estate

Billie Lourd has started a complete renovation of her mother Carrie Fisher’s and grandmother Debbie Reynolds’s neighboring Beverly Hills homes.

Fisher and Reynolds lived side-by-side in the two California properties for more than 15 years before they tragically died within a day of each other in December 2016.

The houses were put up for sale together as one 3.5 acre estate the following year but now Star Wars and American Horror Story actress Lourd, 28, is renovating the lot to make room for her growing family.

She surprised the world in September when she welcomed her first child, Kingston Fisher Lourd Rydell, with fiancee Austen Rydell.

The details of the renovation work are not yet clear, but it is understood the iconic features of Fisher’s old home – where Lourd grew up – are likely to be preserved.

She plans to extend and update the properties, combining them more seamlessly.

Fisher’s famous aviary and an old water fountain in the original gardens has been protected from the new construction.

Lourd’s childhood home is full of her mother’s mismatched vintage furniture and collectibles, including a huge stained-glass window of Lourd in the living room made for Fisher by a friend in England.

The tree-filled estate includes a tennis court and swimming pool and has a long Hollywood history.

It was built originally in 1919 by actor Robert Armstrong who played the captain in King Kong and uttered the famous line, ‘It was beauty killed the beast’.

Bette Davis lived in the home ‘for a while’, Fisher told Architectural Digest, before it was bought by Edith Head in 1933, who did most of the major rebuild.

Fisher bought the house in 1993 for $13.75million before Reynolds moved into the three-bedroom, Spanish-style house next door in 2000 that was bought for $1million.

The home was famous for its bohemian decor, including a Christmas tree complete with a Darth Vader bauble that she used to keep up year-round.

Speaking about the home, Fisher told Architectural Digest: ‘I had so much stuff, I had to live in a place where it wanted to go.

‘The furniture was definitely in charge of where I ended up. If you can say anything about the house, it’s always been playful.’

While many of Fisher’s possessions were auctioned off in October 2017, a 2018 video of Lourd singing in tribute to her late mother showed the Christmas tree still in place in the home.

Last month, Lourd payed tribute to her mother on the day that would have been her 64th birthday.

She posted a sweet photo of the actress during her pregnancy with her, standing in a patio with her blossoming bump on full display.

The Star Wars actress wore a black maternity dress as she posed with her shades on and a piece of corn in hand.

It came just a few weeks after Lourd announced she had welcomed her first child with fiance Austen Rydell.

The news came a surprise, as the actress had not made any formal pregnancy announcement.

‘Introducing: Kingston Fisher Lourd Rydell,’ Billie captioned the post, which showed the baby in what appeared to be a Star Wars-inspired outfit, with his little feet adorably poking out.

The baby’s middle name in tribute to Billie’s late mother. Austen announced Billie had accepted his proposal in June 2020.

‘She said YES!! (Actually she said ‘Duhhh’) But I guess that’s better than yes?!?’ he announced on Instagram.
