Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho launches a sarcastic Instagram rant about the international break

Tell us how you really feel, Jose! Tottenham boss Mourinho launches a sarcastic rant on Instagram over the international break’s ‘Covid test results after matches’ and ‘randomers running on the pitch’ after Matt Doherty tests positive

  • Jose Mourinho has moaned about international break leaving his squad depleted
  • Tottenham boss has been training with just six players ahead of Man City clash
  • He launched a thinly-veiled dig at Covid testing over the international period
  • Matt Doherty tested positive after playing against Wales and will miss key games
  • Mourinho’s star man Harry Kane also played full 90 as England lost to Belgium

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has aimed a thinly-veiled dig at the international break by moaning about Covid-19 tests after matches and having to train with just six players.

Mourinho admitted earlier this month he was fearing the worst once again and expecting only ‘negative things’ to come from the round of international football and suffered a huge blow with Ireland’s Matt Doherty testing positive for coronavirus.

The defender played in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat against Wales but will now miss Tottenham’s matches with Manchester City and Chelsea after his test result came back positive.

Mourinho also said he would love Harry Kane to be rested for these international fixtures after being involved in a club-versus-country row over the use of the striker with England boss Gareth Southgate last month.

Kane was left on the bench for England’s friendly win over Ireland last week but played the full 90 minutes as Belgium beat Southgate’s men 2-0 in Sunday’s Nations League clash – as did Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier.

The Spurs boss, who has made his displeasure at their fixture pile-up this season no secret, has clearly been left even more agitated by how the international break has affected his plans.

In a sarcastic rant on Instagram, Mourinho wrote alongside a picture of himself working out: ‘Amazing week of football. Great emotions in the national team matches, superb friendlies and total safety.

‘Covid test results after matches been played, randomers running on the pitch while team sessions are taking place and much more.

‘After another training session with only 6 players, it is now time to take care of myself.’

The 57-year-old had also been unhappy at having to release three of his Tottenham players, including recently fit-again Gareth Bale, to work under Arsenal coach Albert Stuivenberg with Wales.

Stuivenberg, an assistant to Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, has been on the coaching staff at Wales since 2018 and will take charge of Wednesday’s game with Finland in the absence of Ryan Giggs after his arrest of allegations of assault, having already overseen a draw with USA and a win over Ireland this month.

Mourinho has only had six players at his disposal to prepare for Saturday’s testing clash with Manchester City, but will welcome all of his international stars back on Thursday, giving him just a couple of days to train with a full squad.
