Melania Trump would make MILLIONS leaving Donald Trump in divorce settlement

Since President Trump’s US election loss, there has been speculation around his marriage with Melania Trump. The First Lady has stood by her husband despite his refusal to concede.

Ms Trump could receive a settlement of around $50 million (£37 million) if she splits from her husband, according to a US divorce lawyer.

Jacqueline Newman, managing partner of Berkman Bottger Newman & Rodd, previously told Town and Country: “I would imagine the payout would be fairly generous.”

She said the figure depends on whether Ms Trump receives custody of their son Barron.

Ms Newman said: “It doesn’t seem as if there’s going to be much question as to who the primary caretaker is.

“My guess is that she would get primary custodial rights and he would get access whenever he happens to be in town.”

President Trump has been married twice before Melania.

Both of his previous marriages ended in divorce with settlements fought with prenuptial agreements.

Melania and Mr Trump first met in 1998 and they have been married for 15 years.

“If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave while he’s in office, he would find a way to punish her.”

Former Aide Stephanie Wolkoff claimed Melania was negotiating a post-nuptial agreement to give her son an equal share of Mr Trump’s fortune, the Daily Mail reported.

She reportedly alleged that the couple had separated bedrooms in the White House and had “a transactional marriage”.

President Trump first married Ivana Trump in 1977 and they later divorced in 1992.

Ivana reportedly got $14 million (£10 million), a New York apartment, a mansion in Connecticut and access to Mar-a-Largo once a year after fighting the pre-nup in the divorce settlement.

Mr Trump’s second marriage to Marla Maples lasted between 1993 to 1999.

Ms Maples reportedly received a payout of $2 million (£1.5 million) after she also contested the prenuptial.

During her interview with Town and Country in 2018, divorce lawyer Ms Newman predicted that Mr Trump will not give Melania his apartment in New York if they divorce.

She said: “My guess is real estate will be involved. Obviously, he has the apartment in the city that was his before the marriage, and I can pretty much guarantee he’s not giving it to her.

“But in situations where I’ve dealt with very high-income, high-asset cases, the moneyed spouse will purchase an apartment for the non-moneyed spouse and the children to live in.”
